MACRO Economic & POLITICal trends
Analyze what is being termed the ‘crises of globalization’, including the causes and consequences of current economic and financial ‘shocks’. Analyze growth and productivity globally, regionally and nationally, with particular attention to the causes and consequences of important geographic variances. Analyze global flows of goods and services, and of the capital, labor and technology needed for their production and distribution. Analyze current and historic trends across the Asia-Pacific region, including the rapid economic rise of Japan, then China and now India. Analyze current and historic trends in the European Union, including its “widening” to embrace new members and its “deepening” to evolve from a trade to a monetary union. Analyze current and historic trends in North America, including the internal dynamics of the U.S. political economy and the external dynamics associated with NAFTA. Analyze current and historic trends in the Middle East and Africa, including the political economy of natural-resource and energy-based economies. Analyze the relative global position of a specific national (e.g., Taiwan or Thailand) or regional (e.g., ASEAN) economy, including its internal growth and external accounts. Analyze the relative position of the BRICs--Brazil, Russia, India, and China--in the global economy, including an analysis of critical variances in their separate strategies for growth. Analyze the contribution of cities, special economic zones, provinces and other sub-national economies to a nation’s growth and productivity.
